Positano Day 2 – Praiano & Arienzo

May 9, 2010

We were starving after the hike… so we stopped in Praiano at a local restaurant, Trattoria San Gennaro, for some pizza and vino. After that hike… it was the best meal we’ve ever had in our lives.

We hopped on a bus and headed back to Positano… tired and ready to relax.

We got back to Holiday House Gilda and decided to go down to their local beach located directly off of the property to chill. We had the entire beach of Arienzo to ourselves.

That evening we stayed in and cooked a true Italian feast. We were exhausted after a long hike and long day in the sun. Another big day tomorrow. We’ve got to rest up for the Emerald Grotto and the town of Amalfi!

Positano Day 2 – Path of the Gods

May 9, 2010

Hungover. Last night I let the party get the best of me. But Gilda’s got our remedy… a delicious handmade Italian breakfast. Today we plan to do one of the area’s most famous hikes, Sentiero degli Dei - The Path of the Gods. We hitched a ride to the bus stop in Positano from one of Gilda’s daughters (awesome) and began our epic journey.

We had read up on the hike… but getting some local knowledge and a map helped a lot because its almost impossible to explain. The Path of the Gods is a 1,000 year old trail that use to connect Sorrento and the Sorrentine Peninsula with the Amalfi Coast and its neighboring towns. There are many starting points in many different towns… but we did the section from Positano to Praiano. The hike lives up to its name… dramatic rugged cliff sides, wildlife, terraced farmland and unobstructed views of the Mediterranean. The hike takes around 4.5-5 hours… but it was worth every step.
