I’ll have to give credit to my friends Richard and Jen for turning me on to The Avett Brothers a while back when I moved to town… before they BLEW up. They’re actually good friends with the brothers and had them play at their wedding reception at Chetola up in Blowing Rock, NC. Can you imagine showing up to a reception and being like, “alright, I’m ready for the standards… ‘Electric Slide’, some Boyz II Men cover that you secretly know all the words to, and of course, ‘Shout’… and having The Avett Brothers take stage? That would be wild…
My sister sent me a Hey Tell of the Avetts playing the other night in Greensboro, NC… so I’ve been listening to their stuff recently. It’s always a little more exciting to see them live. They definitely put on a performance. You know what’s even cooler? Seeing them play live, for free. Ever since they were listed as “2009 Artist to Watch” by Rolling Stone Magazine… they cost a $h*% ton to get (we’ve tried). So, when they came to Telluride and played at the free Sunset Concert Series in Mountain Village… I was glad I was hanging out, relaxing, enjoying the show… courtesy of the TMVOA. Good times.
